SOUTH VALLEY TOUR TIPON – PIKI LLACTA – ANDAHUAYLILLAS

Uno Traveler Peru will assist you at your hotel at 08:00 am or at a time that best suits you. Afterwards, you will board our vehicle to head out to explore the impressive South Valley. On this tour we will visit the following tourist attractions.

PIKILLAQTA. – Pre-Inca archaeological complex located 33 km southeast of the city of Cusco at 3,350 masl (10,988 feet) on the road leading to the Puno region, in the district of Luque. The Pikillacta Archaeological Park is one of the most famous and best preserved pre-Inca sites in southern Peru, belonging to the first great imperial state of the Wari. Within this citadel you can find more than 700 buildings, including warehouses, storage rooms, homes, and sacred enclosures. The city has a very harmonious and almost perfect geometric design, it is divided into blocks and with straight streets. Many of its buildings were 2 levels, with high walls made of stones and clay mortar, it is estimated that at its peak this citadel housed approximately 10 thousand people. Uno Traveler Peru takes you to explore this Pre-Inca site on the outskirts of Cusco.

ANDAHUAYLILLAS “The Sistine Chapel of America”. – When taking this interesting South Valley Tour you cannot miss visiting this religious site located 3,120 meters above sea level (10,233 feet) 39 km south of the Imperial City of Cusco. The Church of Andahuaylillas possibly built on an ancient Inca Waka (sacred place) stands out for the art work throughout its interior: mural paintings, canvases, altarpieces, altars, carvings, etc. A propitious place to understand the entire process of evangelization during the European invasion.

TIPON. – After having enjoyed the Church of Andahuaylillas our Uno Traveler Peru team takes you to explore Tipon located at 3960 masl (12,988 feet) 23 km southeast of the great city of Cusco in the district of Tipon , this Inca site is composed of a set of enormous agricultural terraces with an extensive hydraulic engineering system which despite the time continues to function perfectly, the same ones that still serve for agricultural activities for some inhabitants of the area. This archaeological complex due to its impressive hydraulic system is considered a sacred site built to worship water in special times.

Difference between Lares Trek and Inca Trail

There are some key differences between the Lares Trek and the Inca Trail.

  • Lares Trek is a shorter and easier hike; you can visit local villages and interact with children. You can find beautiful Andean lakes where llamas and alpaca’s graze.
  • Inca Trail is a longer trek and takes 4-5 days. This is a porter-only trek where you can find beautiful natural spaces and ancient Inca sites.

Difference between Lares Trek and Salkantay Trek

When it comes to choosing a trek to Machu Picchu, there are many factors to consider. But one of the most important decisions is choosing between the Lares Trek and the Salkantay Trek. Both treks have unique benefits, so it’s important to choose the one that’s right for you.

  • Lares Trek is shorter than Salkantay Trek, but it could be a challenge. This is because Lares Trek takes place at a higher altitude, which can be difficult to handle for some people. But if you are up for a challenge, Lares Trek is an amazing experience. You will get to see some of the most beautiful scenery on this trek, and you will also get to meet some of the local people who live in this remote region of Peru.
  • The Salkantay Trek is longer than the Lares Trek and more challenging. However, this trek takes place at a lower altitude after the third day, making it easier to manage for most people.
