MACHU PICCHU TOUR

ITINERARY

CUSCO - OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO

Uno Traveler Peru will assist you very early at your hotel (around 4:00 am) and then board our private transportation to the Ollantaytambo station for approximately one hour and 30 minutes. In Ollantaytambo you will board the tourist train that will take you for one hour and 45 minutes to the station in the town of Aguas Calientes.

Once you arrive at the station, your guide will be waiting for you and from there you can board the bus together to the archaeological park for a 30-minute ride. After arriving and passing all the corresponding controls, your tour begins on a 2 to 3 hour guided tour where you will visit the most important places of the lost city of the Incas. During your tour you will learn about the Incas, the Andean Cosmology, the Pachamama and you will be very surprised with all the architectural constructions of Machu Picchu. We recommend asking all the questions and queries to your tour guide who will be ready and willing to address all your concerns. After finishing the tour, you will return to the bus stop to board the bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes.

In Aguas Calientes you can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (not included) and later in the afternoon you will board the train that will take you back to the Ollantaytambo station. In Ollantaytambo an Uno Traveler Peru agent will be waiting for you to transfer you to the city of Cusco and later to your hotel.

Difference between Lares Trek and Inca Trail

There are some key differences between the Lares Trek and the Inca Trail.

  • Lares Trek is a shorter and easier hike; you can visit local villages and interact with children. You can find beautiful Andean lakes where llamas and alpaca’s graze.
  • Inca Trail is a longer trek and takes 4-5 days. This is a porter-only trek where you can find beautiful natural spaces and ancient Inca sites.

Difference between Lares Trek and Salkantay Trek

When it comes to choosing a trek to Machu Picchu, there are many factors to consider. But one of the most important decisions is choosing between the Lares Trek and the Salkantay Trek. Both treks have unique benefits, so it’s important to choose the one that’s right for you.

  • Lares Trek is shorter than Salkantay Trek, but it could be a challenge. This is because Lares Trek takes place at a higher altitude, which can be difficult to handle for some people. But if you are up for a challenge, Lares Trek is an amazing experience. You will get to see some of the most beautiful scenery on this trek, and you will also get to meet some of the local people who live in this remote region of Peru.
  • The Salkantay Trek is longer than the Lares Trek and more challenging. However, this trek takes place at a lower altitude after the third day, making it easier to manage for most people.

OPTIONAL WALKS:

  • Hike to Huayna Picchu Mountain: Huayna Picchu Mountain is the mountain that can be seen in front of the Inca citadel at 2,720 meters above sea level. Its route is through a very steep and narrow Inca Trail path and takes approximately 40 minutes to the top where you can have an incredible view of the entire Inca city. If you want to access this beautiful place you can explore it after your tour of Machu Picchu. For this purpose you must make an advance reservation and the cost is $ 75.0 per person.
  • Hike to Machu Picchu Mountain: Machu Picchu Mountain is the highest peak of the Inca citadel at an altitude of 3,082 meters above sea level. Its route is through a less steep and wider Inca Trail path, to reach this point it will take you approximately one hour, at the top there is a viewpoint from where you can have a wonderful view of the Inca citadel and part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. If you want to access this beautiful place you can explore after your tour of Machu Picchu. For this purpose you must make an advance reservation and the cost is $ 75.0 per person
  • Hike to the Inca Bridge: This hike is optional and you do not need to make a reservation. Getting to this point will take you about 30 minutes and is not included in the tour. If you wish to do this short hike, we recommend doing it before your tour so that upon your return you can continue with your private tour in Machu Picchu.
