SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU - 4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS
ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO - SORAYPAMPA - SALKANTAYPAMPA
For the adventure to the Salkantay mountains. Uno Traveler Peru will assist you at your hotel between 05:00 am. and 05:30 am. Depending on where the hotel is located, if you have a hotel outside of Cusco, then we will transport you in our private mobility for 3 hours to Soraypampa (3,900 masl. / 12,795 feet). As we leave the city of Cusco, we will see the snow-capped mountains of Salkantay and Verónica. Soraypampa will be the place of our breakfast and the starting point of our walk. After breakfast our Guide will introduce us to the entire Uno Traveler Peru staff team (Cooks and Riders) before the walk you will receive some explanations from your Guide and will also provide us with some suggestions and techniques to avoid feeling the effects of walking at altitude.
A 2-hour walk uphill will take us to Laguna Humantay (4,200 masl. / 16,470 feet). Here we can enjoy the majesty and tranquility of the mountain and the lagoon with its turquoise waters and beauty of the snow-capped Humantay, it will be conducive to enjoying the best photographic scenes, in case of good luck we can see some condors fluttering around the place and of course we will see some species of flora and fauna typical of the area. Your guide will give you an explanation about the importance of the mountains and lagoons for our ancestors, teaching you a small ceremony of gratitude to the Apus (Sacred Mountains) and Pachamama (Mother Earth) based on Coca leaves. After having enjoyed this beautiful natural setting, we began our descent to Soraypampa and later to the Salkantay Pampa camp (4,100 meters above sea level / 13,451 feet) at the foot of Apu Salkantay . After the night, if you still have energy, you can enjoy the constellations in the company of your Guide.

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA – SALKANTAY PASS – CHAULLAY – COLLPAPAMPA
A cup of Tea and Coffee wake-up offered by our Guide and Cook announce the beginning of the second day. After our fortifying breakfast we began our walk towards the highest pass of this hike. The distance to the top of the pass is 7 km and it will take approximately 4 hours as our ascent through the rocky valley will be a challenge of effort and sacrifice until we reach the top, the Salkantay Pass (4630 m. / 15190 feet). After having completed this challenge, it will be an opportunity to pat yourself on the back as a sign of triumph. From the pass we will be able to observe the imposing and snow-capped peaks of Apu Salkantay, Humantay and Pumasillo. After having completed this challenge, we continue the next 3 hours descending the gravel and rock road to reach Huayracmachay (3,800 m / 12,467 feet) where we will stop for lunch. After our lunch we continue with our downhill walk for 3 hours, passing through cloud forests and rainforest, as we pass, we will witness how the geography changes, giving way to a more tropical climate. Little by little we will reach Chaullay (2,900 m) and later to our Collpapampa camp (2,770 masl. / 9,087 feet), here the climate becomes warmer and more pleasant. At night we will enjoy a dinner prepared by our chef and later a well-deserved rest to recharge our batteries for the next day.

DAY 3: COLLPAPAMPA – LUCMABAMBA – HYDROELECTRIC – AGUAS CALIENTES
A wake-up tea based on the sacred leaves of Coca and/or Coffee announces a new day to us on our third day of expedition to the Lost City of the Incas, after our last delicious breakfast prepared by our Chef, we begin our walk for an approximate 3 hours to reach the valley Sahuayaco or the beach. Along the way we will stop at several family villages to enjoy local productions (passion fruit, banana, coffee, avocado, mango, orange, papaya and other local products). If we are lucky, we will see “The Rooster of the Rocks” the national bird of Peru, as we walk, we arrive at Lucmabamba (2,000 m / 6,600 feet), here our cook will wait for us with a succulent and delicious lunch then he will visit a coffee farm organic and you will learn the harvesting process and how to prepare your espresso coffee. After having enjoyed this beautiful place, we will take local transportation to reach Hidroeléctrica (2,070 masl. / 6,791.4 feet). From there we will have the option of taking the train or walking along the train tracks until we reach Aguas Calientes (2,040 masl. / 6,692.9 feet). where Uno Traveler Peru offers you a stay in a beautiful hotel exclusively for tourists, but later at night we will have a well-deserved dinner at a local restaurant, where your Guide will explain the itinerary of the next one.

DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Your last day begins with a pleasant breakfast at your hotel where your Guide will pick you up to take you to the bus station and then board one of the first buses that will take us to the control gate of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu (2,430 meters above sea level. / 7,970 feet ), within Machupicchu we will walk to the highest part from where you can appreciate the Sacred City in all its magnitude, here your Guide will give you a detailed explanation to continue with the tour that will last approximately 2 hours in which you will visit the most outstanding places and the most important sites such as: the Temple of the Sun, the Casa del Inca, the Solar Clock, the Temple of the Condor, on your tour you will be able to ask questions and we will also have some stops to take photographs and enjoy the beauty of this charming place.
Your guide will offer to meet you in the town of Aguas Calientes to enjoy a last lunch at a local restaurant (it is optional and not included) as a thank you and farewell where your Guide will give you your train tickets and give you a detailed explanation of where and at what time you should take the train to return to Ollantaytambo,
In the afternoon you will board the train at the Aguas Calientes station (try to be 30 minutes early) that will take you to the Ollantaytambo Station where an Uno Traveler Peru agent will be waiting for you and then transport you to the city of Cusco and later to your hotel.
